You Don't Have to Do This Alone: An Invitation to Find Your Support

Have you ever felt completely adrift—like everything that once held you up has disappeared?

I know that feeling intimately.

A decade ago, I left the religion of my childhood to protect one of my children. In doing so, I lost nearly everything I thought was supporting me: my community, my social foundation, the family dynamics I'd known my entire life. I was free in a way I'd never experienced before—but that freedom was also terrifying.

I was raising five kids, trying to navigate this new reality, and feeling utterly alone.

The Moment Everything Changed

One day, I was lying in Shavasana at the end of a hot yoga class at The Little Yoga Room in Temecula. I had a towel draped over my face because I often got emotional in those moments. The instructor, Jen, said something simple: "Feel the earth below you, coming up to support you."

And it hit me like a wave.

For the first time in months, I felt supported. Not by a person or an institution, but by the ground beneath me—by something that had been there all along, just waiting for me to notice it.

I felt the floor pressing against the back of my head, my shoulder blades, my glutes, my calves, my heels. And in that moment, I realized: support had always been there. I just hadn't known how to see it or feel it.

Reconnecting With What Holds Us

That discovery changed everything for me.

Over the years, I've learned to reconnect with the world around me in ways I never had before. Last summer, I returned to Island Park, Idaho—the place where I spent my summers as I grew up. I walked the old trails along the Snake River and laid down on the dock in Shavasana, just as I had done in that yoga class years before.

The sounds were so familiar: the river, the wind in the tall pines, the birds, the smell of sagebrush and summer flowers. That earth had been around me my entire life. It had always been there to support me, to comfort me, to hold me—even when I didn't realize it.

What Does This Have to Do With Coaching?

Everything.

When I work with coaching clients, one of the first things I look for are the support systems and structures already present in their lives. I ask:

  • Who champions you?

  • Where does your best support live?

  • What bolsters you up when things get hard?

  • What helps you shoulder responsibility?

So often, just like that moment I had in yoga—or my childhood summers at the cabin—the support is already there. We just aren't aware of it. We don't see it. We don't feel it. We don't tap into it or draw power from it.

My role as a coach is to help you see what's supporting you, to feel the things that are already there, and to access that strength when you really need it—to feel the ground underneath you.

An Invitation

If you're struggling right now—feeling alone, unsupported, or unseen—I invite you to partner with me.

Give me the opportunity to help you feel seen, supported, and cared about. Let me help you notice the world around you that is there for you, that does support you, that does care about you.

Together, we'll work to harvest the support systems in your life and help you draw strength from them.

And I also invite you back to the earth around you:

  • Take your shoes off

  • Feel the sand between your toes

  • Walk in the dirt

  • Lay down on the grass

  • Listen to the wind

Feel the world around you that is there for you, that is supporting you—even when you can't see it yet.

You don't have to do this alone.
